It's all over now. The day is done, and now the characters with whom we've traveled this 24-hour span may now rest and be rewarded or punished for their respective actions...
HA! Not likely...!
'What is there to say about this finale that may enlighten my readers?' I ask. Little, except for the fact that the logical inconsistences and cliches that abounded during this episode were rather disappointing.
Jack- stuck in the truck by his malfunctioning seat belt. Does he not have a gun with which to threaten Mrs. Palmer? Can he not reach into the glove compartment to retrieve the knife on his own?
Jack's final confrontation with Kingsley- his foe suffers from Talking Villain Syndrome, obviously. Otherwise, why would he allow Jack to reach for the pistol, attempt to fire, then spout a few evil, defiant lines. After which the apparently-silent, sniper-loaded helicopter comes to save the day, to no one's surprise.
Anyway, the action, in judicious amounts, lifted this one above its slightly disappointing sets of conclusions. The climax was of course gripping; a happy finish would not have been nearly as satisfying. It will be beyond difficult to wait for... October? November? When, when, when will we be greeted by these beloved characters' return? posted by Steve
