Last TRW article of the semester!

Celebrating Movies at MD Film Festival 2003

Cinemaphiles from all across the state gathered over one long weekend to celebrate the fifth annual Maryland Film Festival. For the first four days of May, movie fans were treated to a veritable oasis of fascinating filmed features in what has lately been a rather arid desert of dull, lackluster cinema. It was a vast collection of art, much like that of any gallery or museum, except these works were displayed, as intended, at 24 frames per second.

The Charles Theater in Baltimore played host to the majority of the screenings. In total, around fifty full-length movies were shown, representing just about every genre imaginable, along with the dozens of short films exhibited, which were just as varied in theme, but often grouped by general subject matter, such as "comedy," "the power of three" and "meditations." Acclaimed documentaries, lost classics, world premieres, foreign masterpieces- all were included amongst the ample offerings for the open-minded, adventurous cineaste.
