The campus of UMBC is abuzz with controversy over this week's opinion piece by R. Eric Thomas:
From Bondage to Books: An Idiot's Guide to Black History Month

OK, so you've read it and you're back? Good.
Now don't be angry. Or maybe you should be angry- I think that was the point, though not at the author, but at anyone who would seriously postulate such opinions.

Eric is, without a doubt, one of the most talented writers at The Retriever Weekly or any paper, for that matter, and he really hit this one out of the park. I suggest anyone who is fuming go read Swift's Modest Proposal. But some people just won't get it. The key to successful satire is never to let on that your tongue is firmly planted in cheek, and I appreciate Eric's courage to write what he did and the way that he did it.
