I was checking out the videos in Leo's blog, and saw me, myself, and/or I appearing in the second video down, "ROCK STAR." You'll notice the UMBC shirt, hehe... Remember I told you I shook Leo's hand when they were coming in? I wasn't lying... see for yourself! :-)
You need quicktime 6 to see it; I tried to screencap it, but QT don't like that, for whatever reason. posted by Steve

And that I did, after patiently waiting in line for 2 hrs and 45 mins, mingling with my fellow nerd... the guys, Patrick and Leo that is, were real pros; they were only scheduled from 12-2, but they stayed much past 3, until God only know when...
*CORRECTION*... Leo's blog says 4 hours and 47 minutes..WOW! Everyone I talked to didn't expect there to be that many people showing up... how typical.
We got there at 12 noon on the dot, just as Leo and Patrick (who was wearing his kilt!), were arriving. A looooong line of hundreds of people had already formed when we got inside, and as I got in queue, the two Gods among nerds charged into the shopping center, and I got to give Leo a high-five/handshake sort of thing: very cool... Cameras everywhere... I might just show up in some shots who knows?
Tons of prizes were given out for knowing TechTV trivia... I wanted a t-shirt or hat but had to settle for a bouncy ball that lights up when it hits the ground. I chatted a little bit with Ken, producer of TSS. Extremely nice guy.
Since they didn't have any copies of Leo's 2003 Tech Almanac, I had to get my bros to keep my spot while I shufled down to Books-A-Million to get my (overpriced) copy. Overpriced I say because I should have gotten it at Waldenbooks ahead of time, but it's still easily worth it.
When the time finally came to meet these Herculean figures of the computer world, I was ready, with book in hand (they also signed a photo), and question in mind. I asked him, since I have to write a term paper for IFSM 300, "If you could pick one hot topic in the world of IT, what would it be?"
"Security," was his response, and he elaborated a bit for the short length of time there was until the next person stepped up. I shook Patrick's hand, saying "Kilts Forever!" What a swell thing it was. Too bad Martin, Megan, Cat, Morgan, and the rest of the gang couldn't make it... maybe next time... posted by Steve

For some reason, it doesn't look as though this week's Around Town has made it up, at least not yet. But it's aaaaallll good.
Tomorrow i go to see the greatest movie ever made, for the first time I'll see it on the big screen! At...Yay... The Senator! Best theater in town, hon!
Otherwise, I've got a very busy weekend ahead of me. 'Til next time... peace! posted by Steve

Hmmm... how do I put this?... This is, to my memory, the first day that I've had a few hours of 'me time' in quite a while. It's so grand to be homework-free. Procrastination is the enemy! Long-live doing your work ahead of time! (This'll last another hour or two, when I snap out of it...)
I saw the Transporter, the upcoming French-Hong Kong action flick. Not bad at all, especially on the action side of things. I'd post the review, but it may be showing up on another site, if I'm lucky...
Remember kiddies, 24:The First Season comes out tomorrow...
I could make a list of all the forthcoming DVDs I have on my want list, but that would be thoroughly unproductive.
LOTR:FOTR:Extended, Star Wars, Epi.II, Minority Report, Spiderman, Monster's Inc. (tomorrow), BTTF, etc. etc. etc.... posted by Steve

This has to be a joke:
Under-Ease by Under-Tec Under-Tec Corp presents a new product to eliminate the foul odor caused by flatulence. Read the testimonials. Apparently it's not a joke.
Its Great! This is one of the best page's on the net!!!
The Apostrophe Protection Society Apostrophes are NEVER ever used to denote plurals! Common examples of such abuse (all seen in real life!) are:
Banana's for sale which of course should read Bananas for sale.
Thats very true; now for some more website's. ;-)
Hi-ho, hi-ho, it's off to the gulag we go!
Stalin World You may have thought Disneyland and Stalin-era mass deportations had nothing in common. But thanks to enterprising Lithuanian Viliumas Malinauskas, they do now....
This one is just too precious not to post:
Lobsters, caviar and brandy for MPs at summit on starvation They are gorging on mountains of lobster, oysters and fillet steak at the Johannesburg conference — aimed at ending FAMINE. As the summit began yesterday, desperate kids in nearby shanty towns queued for water at standpipes. Bigwig politicians among the 60,000 delegates, including Deputy PM John Prescott, also get vintage bubbly and brandy. Taxpayers are footing the £500,000 bill for the 70-strong British party. Friends of the Earth called the extravagance “deplorable”.
Well, that's all for right now. I think I've depleted the world's natural resources of all their irony.
And here's the latest weekly Around Town column I am now editing:
Around Town 9/11-9/18
And that is that. Happy weekend, ya'll. I hope you've got fun things to do ahead of you.
Huzzah!
My features article finally got posted. Well, my second one did, from the Sep. 3 issue. Don't know if the Aug. 27 review will be eventually, so if not, I'll upload it here.
Yee-haw! Please do check it out. It would mean a lot to me. ;-)
And major props to my editor Jenn, without whom, the article would be a long (shocker!), rambling mess.
Egad!:
A new law in Greece has video game fans heading underground. The law has banned games on computers and consoles like GameCube, Xbox and Playstation in public places like Internet cafes, the British Broadcasting Corp. reports. It's part of a policy to clamp down on illegal gambling but critics say it fails to distinguish between computer games and interactive video gambling. Violators face fines and jail time. "Theoretically the police can arrest you if you are using your PC for playing games or if your employer catches you playing chess or backgammon on Yahoo," said a statement from the Greek Internet Cafe Union, which is fighting the ban. Officials told the BBC even though the law bans the playing of games on personal computers and game systems at home, police will only pursue gamers who flout it in public places.

Well, the (2) articles I've written for TRW have still yet to be published on the web. And I'm taking over "Around Town," which publicizes upcoming events in Baltimore/Washington (that are not at UMBC.) If anyone reading this knows of a shindig that's soon approaching (but more than a week away), I can maybe include in the next issue.
Oh yeah, be sure to click the new button on the left, for the Single Format for HD-DVDs. It's important; we can't have companies screwing this up. One format, PLEASE! Not another VHS/Beta or DVD-Audio/SuperAudioCD. And take your time, for crying out loud: DVD is just now entering its prime.

Hehe... the only reason I would've wanted the baseball season to have been prematurely halted is that 24, best show on network TV, would most likely have been moved back up to a normal starting date. As it stands, the show goes back on the air October 29. Grrrr... to remember that it'll be back soon, download this little gizmo:
